We place high importance on providing unbiased general consumer
information along with helpful financial education to enable our
members to acquire the information they need to gain the skills
necessary to make sound purchasing, borrowing, and
money-management decisions essential to achieving their goals.
1. Newsletter - The
credit union publishes a quarterly newsletter to bring to the
members' attention current issues, new services, rates and other
various information. We also feature "Dollar Power, Money
Facts for Young Adults." These educational articles focus on
providing information on special financial topics to help students
make good financial decisions and learn good money-management
skills.
2. Web Site - To help our members plan their
money-management strategies we encourage our members to access
"Members' Financial Network." It provides comprehensive
online financial services including online brokerage service, a
wealth of money-management advice, various workbooks, and over a
dozen financial calculators that help with all aspects of personal
finances.
3. Web Carbook - The most
accurate and comprehensive vehicle information available
including: invoice and MSRP (Manufacturer's Suggested Retail
Price), pictures, standard and optional equipment, technical
specifications, warranty, road test, safety information, and more.
For used vehicles, it contains data on used vehicles for the
last ten years. Members can get wholesale and retail values based
on condition, mileage, and location.
4. Resource Library
- In our lobbies we have free
consumer information pertaining to a variety of topics such as:
Home Buying Workbook; Vehicle Buying and Leasing Guide A Guide to
Student Financial Aid; Out of Hock & Out of Debt" - a
handbook on reducing credit card and personal debt - a Job Hunting
Handbook, and "Surviving a Layoff" - a handbook on
managing stress, family, and finances.
5. High School Student Visit - On occasion, high school
teachers call us and request to have us present a segment on
financial issues. We go through the process of opening up
accounts, the ramifications of writing NSF checks, credit
reporting, and the loan interviewing process. We know that the
students learn a lot from the questions and comments we get after
the sessions. These sessions are conducted by the teller
supervisor, loan manager and marketing director.
6. Employee Orientation -We have developed an excellent
training program that is maintained by an on-staff trainer. New
employees learn about the historical development of credit unions
as a worldwide movement. How a credit union is organized. How
credit unions differ in purpose, spirit, and operation from other
financial institutions.
